Man of the Year

Recently my sister Maiken introduced me to the HGTV show Holmes on Homes (and here). For those of you not familiar, Mike Holmes is an awesome contractor who comes in and rescues families who paid to have work on their home done, and had it done wrong. Not only does this guy come in and fix the work, he fixes anything he finds wrong even if it has nothing to do with the original reason they came in. This can lead to entire plumbing and rewiring for the entire house.

The guy is just amazing and has a wonderful crew with him. His motto is "Make it Right." He goes above and beyond which sadly most people are not willing to do. He also has a foundation that encourages youth to go into the skills trade and receive proper training to help make sure that future contractors and skilled workers are doing things right, from the beginning.

There have been several episodes of this show that will make you tear up and I'm always amazed at the after product. The only downside of watching the show is that I'm terrified to ever own a home again, or hire anyone to do work on said fantasy home. But man its a fun show to watch. And it may or may not have anything to do with me having a serious crush on this guy. I mean he's got a soft spot for helping people, amazing work ethic, great skills (I bet there are some nunchuku ones in there too), soft on the eyes and there is just something about watching guys use their muscles. And I don't care what Britta thinks, Canadians are AWESOME!

My first impressions of Mike were that he had high standards, he cared to go above and beyond, and he's a good looking man. The fact that he works so hard and expects the same from contractors and subs makes him even hotter to me. I've learned from him that to be a homeowner I get to do a lot of research. I feel intrepid about it as well, but man do I love that men like him are out there- even in Canada. I'd loooovvveee to work on his crew!

I'm starting to soften to Canadians now that so many Americans have proved themselves complete idiots regarding health care. And Michael Buble is Canadian. That helps a lot.

Britta has Canadians all wrong. (Although, I don't know many of the ones from the eastern side.) But I have many friends who are Western Canadians and they are so great. In fact, every time I drive through Canada, either to or from Alaska, I'm always struck by how happy and friendly they all are. Makes me feel like less of a stranger while passing through. Also, my favorite MMA fighter of all-time is the current UFC welter weight champion, Georges St. Pierre, from Montreal. And any true MMA fan will likely tell you that he is their favorite current champion; Not only is he amazing at it, but he's always polite to fans, the press, and to his opponents.
Anyway, I know that's not the point of Kari's entry. Sounds like a good show, Kari. I'd better make sure I always "do it right."

Heloooooooo! Michael J. Fox and Anne of Green Gables are from Canada! Need I say more?! I've never seen the show, but the Holmes guy looks a bit scary to me...from his google search, anyway. Perhaps I should watch it.

I love this show. I started watching a couple months again. He's amazing. Another HGTV Canadian that is easy on the eyes is Scott McGilsomething or other, from Income Property. I love seeing the transformations.

Dave loves to watch that show because he learns a lot from the guy and he has recently got me hooked. That guy is amazing!
